Known as Georgia's Little Grand Canyon, Providence Canyon is also referred to as one of the seven natural wonders in the state.

Parking: $5

One of our favorite activities during the summer and spring season is being outside and going hiking. There's plenty of hiking trails in our area, but we decided to go about 2 hours south of Atlanta to Lumpkin Georgia and visit one of the state's seven natural wonders.

Most people have heard of the Grand Canyon located out West but we bet that most people may not have heard Georgia's Little Grand Canyon, or formerly known as Providence Canyon. It is considered to be one of the most photographed state parks In Georgia, and we couldn't agree more.

During our visit to Providence Canyon we knew that we were going to expect canyons we were kind of lost when it came to finding the actual canyons itself but it was really funny because right when you start the trail you’re all of a sudden greeted by red clay and from that right Clay you can either take a left and a right or we could’ve went straight to continue the hike which is what we did come to find out that if we went either left or right we would be in the canyons so since we did take the straight route, we were able to find ourselves at the overview look out of the canyons so we could see the view from the trees tops. We were not disappointed because it was definitely a beautiful site that for surprise it was in the south!

Along the trail to the top of the canyons, we found signs with information throughout the trails that poor farming practices caused the canyons. Although, we can forgive those farmers today.

One interesting and unexpected feature of this trail is that we found abandoned decayed cars that look like the could be anywhere from 40 years old if not more. It almost felt like we were in a zombie apocalypse movie scene.

During the trail that we decided to take we were able to go to the top of the canyon, And see the many variations of Orange, pinks and white sandstone Throughout the canyons.

Once we made it back around the trail, we were back to the canyon floor we were able to walk through the Georgia red clay to go into the creases in small caves of the Canyons themselves.

If we had a tip to give, we suggest wearing shoes that are either black or old because the clay is very red and can get very wet and muddy.

One thing that we were pretty bummed about is that to share a birds eye's view of the Canyons with our drone.

Providence Canyon is a beautiful outdoor park with short mile trail options, perfect for a day trip to 10+ miles for advanced hikers. We recommend visiting during the springtime and we cannot wait to be back this year!
