When we planned to visit New Orleans we knew that we wanted to experience genuine southern hospitality and all that the Big Easy had to offer! We felt the best way to do that was by booking a stay with a Bed and Breakfast, which is something we've never done before! 🛏🍳✔️

When we imagined staying at a Bed and Breakfast, we thought it would be super homey, like staying the weekend at grandma's house, and that we might even become best friends with the host! 👵 It seemed like it would be a good way to really get to know the location as well!
Well we didn't have many options or choices because we were booking our stay very last minute! But we found a unique bed and breakfast called Fleur De Lis Mansion. What makes this place so cool is that each room has a different theme.
The room that we initially booked was called the Royal Suite. We were really excited to stay in this room, but when we arrived we were informed that the Royal suite can only sleep 2 people, and since we had Shelby (our photographer) with us we were not allowed to stay in that room. We specifically picked the Royal Suite because it's a huge suite, with multiple couches and 1 bed. But we were told that it was a fire hazard to have anyone sleep on a couch. We asked if they had a rollaway cot or anything to accommodate us so that we could keep the room, but they did not. We were pretty upset that we couldn't have the room we wanted. It wasn't stated anywhere on their website that it was only for 2 people max. And it didn't help that the host was not very friendly either.

At first glance, Fleur De Lis Mansion is adorable. It is an old mansion that has been remodeled with a gorgeous courtyard with plenty of areas to sit and enjoy a cup of tea. 🍵

So we ended up getting switched over to the River Suite. The theme of the room was more traditional yet a vintage look with exposed brick walls and retro furniture. A unique feature of the room is that it has two levels. The main level (with the entrance) has one bed and the central bathroom, and then a spiral staircase that leads up to two more bedrooms. One of them has their own whirlpool tub!

One room we also were looking at reserving was called the Hollywood Bungalow, which is decorated with mirrors on the walls and ceiling! We were so lucky to run into the person that booked the room, and he was kind enough to do a quick tour and let us get some photos to share with you guys! It was so glamorous! 💎✨ But it is pretty small, so it's great that we ended up with a bigger suite!
Another cool thing about the Hollywood room is that it's located next to the entertainment/theater room for the mansion. Where you can watch TV or a movie or show, or even a football game on the projected screen. Next to the theatre is where you can find the two hot tubs, although only one was operating during our stay.

Every morning, we did wake up to a breakfast buffet. One thing that you would expect from a bed and breakfast would be an emphasis on BREAKFAST. Most things were laid out but there weren't many hot options at all excluding the hot water for oatmeal and a waffle maker. They had options like cereals, oatmeal, and fruit, nothing special.

During the evening they have a complimentary wine hour, that is self serviced right in the main Mardi Gras Dining Room. This could be fun if you can catch some other guests and want to chat. Oddly, we didn't see any other guests during our stay even though we were told the hotel was fully booked.
For the most part, we did enjoy our stay in The River Suite. The room was spacious and comfortable, although New Orleans get super humid and hot, it didn't take super long for the place to cool down.
We hate to say that this isn't a place we would book again. Maybe we were expecting too much, but we think it comes down to the customer service that we experienced. Like we said in the beginning, we wanted to love our stay. Staying at a bed and breakfast we hoped to build a connection with the host, but unfortunately, the host wasn't the friendliest and seemed annoyed whenever we asked her a question. For this reason, besides not getting the room we initially booked, our excitement for our stay faded away (kind of killed our vibe). If you follow along with us on Instagram stories (@trippingwithmybff), you'll know we had a lot planned during our stay in New Orleans, so we didn't spend much time at The Mansion except to get ready and sleep. Overall, our stay was mediocre, at best.
Still, we wanted to share Fleur De Lis Mansion, because we think the concept is really cute and unique!
The Mansion is not in a central tourist location, so we had to get Uber to get to where we wanted to be, but it was just few miles away. Where we were located was nice and quiet, away from all the hustle and bustle on Bourbon St. If your looking for a place that is quiet and unique, then this place is definitely for you!

🌟 We rate this hotel a 2 out of 5 stars. 2 for being comfortable, safe and quiet.
We loved our trip to New Orleans and will look for other places to stay next time!
